Enlighten Up!

This past Sunday, Laughing Lotus brought their usual Body & Soul class outside to Pier 57  on the Hudson River.  It was an extra special event, because all proceeds from the class went to the Lineage Project, which brings yoga and mediation to at-risk and incarcerated youth in NYC. Breathe Repeat was there to soak up the juicy flow and Bhakti vibes!  Here is a run down of the evening:

Once we arrived, there was body painting and HoopAsana going on… and of course a dance party!  DJ RheeWind was playing some fun upbeat tunes, so Breathe Repeat joined all the other whirling dervishes and starting dancing right away! The venue was spectacular!  It was right on the Hudson River at Pier 57 and 15th street.  The breeze was flowing through our hair, and the sunset was kissing our skin as we tore up the dance floor with hundreds of our fellow Modern Yogis .

Next, there was an incredible performance by Lava Brooklyn. The duet showcased their skills with a combo of Acroyoga, dance and theater. It was amazing!!!!!! A few times we thought there was only one performer since they were moving so fluidly- SO COOL!

After the performance we rolled out our mats and continued to shake our ASSanas. The cosmic Dana Flynn (the Janis Joplin of yoga!) talked us through a free-spitited flow that included postures like peaceful warrior, double rainbow and dancing camel! Now you’re wishing you were there right?

At one point we even broke out into a full on dance party… in the middle of asana class!!! It was at this point that we realized that we’ve been taking our practices a little too seriously! 😉  It’s so important to let go sometimes and move freely – without worrying about emptying out your groin or extending your pinky toe!  Dancing ecstatically in the middle of a sequence is a great way to get out of your head and into your body.

Dana closed out the practice with a beautiful guided meditation, a tranquil savasana, and the mantra “Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu” which she translated as: “May all beings everywhere be happy, WILD and free.”

Laughing Lotus can take us to the river any time!  Jai Ma!
